A deeply spiritual memoir about how one woman survived the 1994 genocide. It is amazing to read how she came to forgive her killers, even while they were seeking her out. It is also a fabulous reflection on Rwandan culture and Rwandan people.

Almost a frustrating tale about the intricacies and power-plays of the UN, this book gives a great overview of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Dallaire explains the major players and their motivations; he also describes (in almost too much detail) his own vivid memories of encounters, sights, and smells during his time as the force commander of UNAMIR (UN Arusha MIssion for Rwanda).
