A deeply spiritual memoir about how one woman survived the 1994 genocide. It is amazing to read how she came to forgive her killers, even while they were seeking her out. It is also a fabulous reflection on Rwandan culture and Rwandan people.

— Go to the People, Live with them, Love them, Learn from them, Work with them, Start with what they have, Build on what they know, And, in the end, When the work is done, the people will rejoice, And, they will say, “We have done it ourselves.” —

Rwanda Ministry of Health

Modern Rwandan history is dominated by the genocide of 1994 and 1997-8 when one million Rwandans were murdered out of a total population of nine million.  The infrastructure of the country, including the health care education and delivery system, was decimated.

Since that time, extraordinary progress has been made.  Today, there is a stable, democratically elected government.  Leadership is excellent with honest, well educated, enlightened ministers and thoughtful practical government policies.

WWHPS is partnering with the Rwanda Ministry of Health to implement its CCHIPs initiative at targeted health centres.  The Rwanda Ministry of Health is commited to improving the health of the Rwandan population.  We have worked closely with the ministry to help it achieve the goals set forth in its Health Sector Strategic Plan (HSSP), such as satisfying Millenium Development Goals related to health.
