To improve the delivery system for primary health care in rural Rwanda through the development of a model for healthcare delivery that is sustainable, replicable and effective:
Sustainable:
- All aspects of the model must involve low-cost solutions that can be implemented and sustained by local communities. It is an evolutionary model which should continue to develop with experience and changing local conditions and will not be dependent on international aid but be able to be maintained by the Rwandan government.
Replicable:
- We are designing the model as a template that can be applied to all rural clinics in Rwanda. We will document the model in an "operating manual" and we will train Rwandans to apply the model to multiple clinics simultaneously.
Effective:
- Our model must achieve measurable improvements over the current situation. We are constantly quantifying the performance of the model and monitoring the effectiveness of our innovations. We rethink any solutions that do not achieve significant results.
