The mission of Wyman Worldwide Health Partners (WWHPS) is to develop a self-sustaining and replicable health care delivery system model for existing rural health centers in Rwanda. We are achieving this through our Comprehensive Community Health Initiatives and Programs (CCHIPs) project.
Primary healthcare in Rwanda today is delivered by community health centers, which act as mini-hospitals with 15-25 inpatient beds, a delivery room, a laboratory and a pharmacy. Power, access to clean water and sanitation facilities differ across health centers. Additionally, health centers are staffed by nurses with varying levels of formal medical training and no management experience. Our goal is to improve these health centers by using a standardized, self-sustaining, simple and practical organizational model.
In order to develop this model, CCHIPs has been working within rural health centers since 2006 to develop two approaches for systematically improving health centers throughout the country:
- Capacity Building: Providing best practices for all health center processes and training staff in their use
- Resource Provision: Ensuring that health centers have the basic facilities and equipment necessary to provide quality comprehensive primary care
Following our success at Shingiro Health Center, we are currently working with the Rwandan Ministry of Health to formalize our model and ensure that it is fully integrated with Ministry of Health policies and protocols.
This is who we are working for:
